Today teaching is about the authority believers have in overcoming the enemy.
In this study we define an enemy as anything that tries to get at a believer, that could prevent them from moving forward into the presence of God. We have said before we are victorious in God. Being victorious we are overcommers as well.
We overcome the enemy because we ourselves are overcommers in Jesus Christ.
1 John 5:4-6.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
Second we know Satan is like a roaring lion. Seeking to devour those believers any way he can.
1 Peter 5:8-11
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
We are able to hold off the enemy by being stedfast in the faith. We know we have pass from death unto light, we know the spirit of God is in us. God is the light of the world. As we walk in the light and the light of Christ is in us. We can conclude by saying as a believer in Christ, we can be vigilant. Have that watchful spirit knowing the enemy will come our way. We are also sober and on the alert, knowing Satan is there to get us out of relationship with God. We are stronger than the enemy. We have a greater power living within. That is Jesus Christ Gal 2:20
Jesus himself was tempted by Satan, yet he was able to overcome. Our spiritual things we do in life will help us overcome the enemy by our authority we have in Jesus Christ. Fasting, praying, spending time with God, renewing our mind for God each day, most of all don’t let the world dictate your life or behavior in Christ Jesus. The power or authority we have in overcoming the enemy is the word of God.
Third is suit up for the battle. We will explain that more detail on Thursday. Exercising your authority. Meaning using what you already have for when those things us after us. Our battle with the enemy is more spiritual than we think. That is why Ephesians 6 talks about being ready for the spiritual battle. Put on the full armor of God. By doing this we are able to withstand the devil schemes. Going back to 1 Peter 5:8.
Finally the fourth is fellowship with other believers in Christ. Unity within the body of believers. Being with people of like mind and having the same type of spirit, Satan will have a hard time getting to us. The force or the band of believers agreeing with each other is powerful. The more we are in unity the greater the spiritual power we have. The Bible speaks about this in Hebrews 10:25. It also gives us something to do besides this. Telling the believers to encourage or exhorting each other.
This four takeaway will give us some ideal of how to use our authority we have in Christ to overcome the enemy. So much more I could add but for now, we can take what was said and but it to heart..
