Today we are continuing with our spiritual gifts. Today is about the gift of speaking in tongues. This gift has raised a lot of questions within many faith. Yet it is a gift the believers receive from the Holy Spirit.
Why is this gift given to people? What purpose does it serve within the body of Christ. If we look into the book of Acts, we see the release of the holy spirit. At this time we see that gift in operation. Let’s look and see what the scriptures was referring to.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:3-4 KJV
There are things to look at within the scriptures. Why was the able to speak in tongue. This was done through the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit gave utterance. The reason why this happened because the word of God came forth, so when people heard this they would know about Christ in their own language. It was a reason behind this. The second reason why this was done, because it was promised by Jesus. People would receive power to be his witness. The power to do wonderful words in the name of Jesus by the power of God.
The gift of speaking in tongue was to let other know about the savior Jesus Christ. For the scriptures says.
Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilæans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
Acts 2:6-8 KJV
I do think they was proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in other languages so people could come to know Jesus Christ as their savior. This was the first in the New Testament. The beginning of the church age. Jesus had done what we was sent out to do. People had to carry on God’s plan and purpose. Restoration into God’s kingdom.
Do we still practice speaking in tongues? Have people missed used it for gain? How do we go about using this gift for the body of Christ.
In my observation, people had use this gift wrongly. This gift was to encourage the body of Christ. I do believe the purpose of this gift, was to bring about change in a person life as they heard this gift being use. As previously stated the fire of the Holy Spirit landed on their tongue. Holy Spirit will give a person this gift as needed for saved and unsaved.
I do think when a person is fully filled with the Holy Spirit, they will proclaim the word. The word my be foreign to us but yet it’s there to let you realize the power of God. The act of God working and releasing this gift upon a person only show us the Jesus Christ, God and the holy spirit working through a person.
This gift has been around for a long time, but as we study this gift more in detail, we will see why this gift is give to people. This gift is set on fire through the Holy Spirit. Enabling people to exercise their gift. Pure and holy unto God.
Tomorrow we will be looking into speaking in tongues as a gift vs just speaking in tongues that people have on them. Why has speaking in tongue some people are able but other don’t. Also we be talking along the line the gift of interpretation of tongue.
