The last few days we been talking about the calling on a person life. Today we are looking into the gifts God has given us. As believers in Jesus Christ we all have things in common. What’s in common is our spiritual gift that God has given all of us. How are these gift used in the church today.
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7 KJV
There are many spiritual gift. They are to use to encourage the body of believers. Each person receive from God this gift, we just have to receive it. Since there is only one God, one Son and one Holy Spirit. Our gifts that God gives each one is different from the calling. In a church many gifts are operating at the same time, yet there is order in it all. It pleases God to use our gift for him. Again gifts are given to man, by God, but it is manifested through the Holy Spirit.
To understand this the following verses explains it clearly
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: but all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
1 Corinthians 12:8-11 KJV
How are gift administrated. First God through the working of the Holy Spirit this is done. Each person man have different gifts, but the only have one calling. The above text shows different gifting of the Holy Spirit. Are gifts may not function in the church all at one time. A person may have the gift of prophecy, that doesn’t make him a prophet. We should never get our gift confuse with the calling. Another example is a person could have the gift of teaching, yet he not called to teach. Let say Mr left was called by God to an evangelist. Before God revealed to him his calling, one thing Mr Left love to do is teaching. Teaching to him was something he enjoyed doing. Yet it wasn’t his calling to teach, but was a gift.
When a person is called by God does it eliminate his gifts? No. A person has now two things working in his or her life. The calling and the gift. He or she could use their gift at the same time they are ministering the word or proclaiming the good news about Christ. Each of us don’t have the same gift but we can use it accordingly.
But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
I Corinthians 12:31 NKJV
Our goal in the body of Christ is to use your gift accordingly as the Spirit leds you. People are given a gift for a reason. If you’re gift calls you to sing, sing into the Lord. You can’t go around and trying to be something you aren’t. Knowing and understanding your gifts, you will appreciate it more. You can’t say I want to be this or that if God didn’t tell you. There are many members in the body of Christ but each member don’t have the same function.
Today topic was receive from God your gift. From looking at the text today we learn and understand our gifting is something God has placed on us to do and it could be many gifts. As we go one each day the gift that God has given us can be multiple gifts and it is freely pour out into others at the right time and place.
