Weekend Wonder

Today we will be talking about John 3:16 and John 3:36.

John 3:16 tells us the gift and John 3:36 is the  spiritual possession

[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:36 KJV
[36] He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

It is seen that Jesus was God’s gift to man. The key to the verse is God’s love, and human response.  God gave and  human response is to believe. This is the left bookend to the content of John 3:16-36. This holds the scriptures together that are between John 3:16-36. 

John 3:36 is the right bookend because it holds the truth from John 3:17-35.  John 3:36 tells us what we possess and how we possess it. The final truth in this chapter is life vs God’s wrath.  Those who believe in Jesus have everlasting life. Yes the believers in Jesus Christ have life everlasting. Those who don’t have life are condemned and the wrath of God is upon them. 

The truth today is the bookend story. John 3:16 and John 3:36 are the book ends that hold John John 3:17-34 together. As we look into this chapter the truth is believers aren’t condemned but have life. We also can cross reference this to Romans 8:1. Those that don’t believe in Jesus Christ are already condemned by God. They walk in darkness. They love the deeds of the dark more than light.  They are blinded to the truth and the truth isn’t in them.

John 3:16 and John 3:36 hold the middle verses together because it gives us the true meaning of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
