God is……

God is

Today we aren’t looking at the names of God, but looking into what David viewed God as. This will be taken from 2 Samuel chapter 22.

2 Samuel 22:1-3 NIV
[1] David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. [2] He said: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; [3] my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior— from violent people you save me.

The translation within the king James version and the niv version is off some. The word LORD in the KJV is capitalized. Meaning he was referring to the Almighty God.   The point he made, is something the believers need to realize about God. God to David was his rock.

When you call a person a rock, what type of person is he or she. The word rock best describes a person as  extremely strong, reliable, and unmovable in all circumstances.  David knew God was the rock because God never changed. He was there in David’s life for the ups and downs.  In the big or small battle that David faced God was there with him and his army.  David understood God as being the rock because God was and still is unmovable.  He also had the wisdom to know God would be there to the point he could rely on God no matter what.

Do the believers in Christ understand God and Jesus as their rock. A rock that can’t be shaken, a rock that is strong in battle, a rock that we can go to in times of trouble.  God is our rock and in him we find safety and rest.

David continues to say more about who God is to him. God is my refuge, my high tower, the horn of my salvation.  All this is telling us David knew God was his protector. God was the source of his strength.  The horns of a ram or a bull protects them in a fight and any other things they might need the horns to protect themselves from.  God delivers us from danger. Knowing this Jesus himself gave the world salvation. Salvation from the death of sin and the grave. In Jesus we have true salvation, we won’t perish but have everlasting life in God, when we believe and confess in the work of Jesus Christ.

Are we allowing God to be our horn of our salvation.  Understanding and seeing what he has delivered us out of and into.  The powerful working of God.  God has delivered people out of life situations that were impossible for others to do.  Thank God for all he has delivered you out of. Praise him in the battle and praise him for the victory.  The greater part of all this is just knowing who God really is.  He is our rock, our salvation, strong tower. We look up to him because he is sitting high. Sitting high in heavenly places and providing for our needs according to his riches in glory.

God is just God and love on his people. He is a God of wrath also, but at the same time he is a God of love. He is a jealous God, but merciful. We will continue to see about who God is this week so we can understand the power of living a life full of his power and grace. We can continue to live for God and not fall under the tricks of the enemy. Let’s live for God each day and let God refresh your spirit, heart , mind and soul each and everyday.

Read 2 Samuel chapter 22 and see what David was saying about God and know God is much more than who you think he is.
