A promise is a promise

Who is next in charge? You are still a prince, no matter what might happen to you. What is your true identity? When you know the truth, your mind will be awakened. It only takes one person to tell you the real story and then things can be put into place. A restoration is coming your way after you have been broken.

The broken spirit that might have been on Mephibosheth, could be that of why me, what is my purpose of living, and feeling of unwantedness by those around him. What changed all this was something that was done years ago. The oath that King David made with Jonathon a long time before. a promise to take care of his family.

2 Samuel chapter 9 we see the plea that David sent forth.

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭9:1‬ ‭NCV‬‬
[1] David asked, “Is anyone still left in Saul’s family? I want to show kindness to that person for Jonathan’s sake!”

The reply was sent out to David and here is what it said.

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭9:2‭-‬4‬ ‭NCV‬‬
[2] Now there was a servant named Ziba from Saul’s family. So David’s servants called Ziba to him. King David said to him, “Are you Ziba?” He answered, “Yes, I am your servant.” [3] The king asked, “Is anyone left in Saul’s family? I want to show God’s kindness to that person.” Ziba answered the king, “Jonathan has a son still living who is crippled in both feet.” [4] The king asked Ziba, “Where is this son?” Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.”

We see Jonathon’s son is still living but yet is lame. He is staying in lo Debar. Many have said lo debar was a bad town. It was a town of people who had nothing and it was like the ghetto.

here is the conversation between David and Mephibosheth. Here comes the restoration

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭9:5‭-‬8‬ ‭NCV‬‬
[5] Then King David had servants bring Jonathan’s son from the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar. [6] Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son, came before David and bowed facedown on the floor. David said, “Mephibosheth!” Mephibosheth said, “I am your servant.” [7] David said to him, “Don’t be afraid. I will be kind to you for your father Jonathan’s sake. I will give you back all the land of your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” [8] Mephibosheth bowed to David again and said, “You are being very kind to me, your servant! And I am no better than a dead dog!”

What people see in you, is what you see in yourself. If people said you wont amount to anything over a period of time, one might believe it in their inner being. Mephibosheth said why are you doing this, I am no better than a dead god. meaning his life is useless. David said he will be kind to him because of his father’s sake.

The restoration came back to the family line of king saul. what was taken was now restored. Not only did David restore to Mephibosheth all that was rightfully due him, but he ate at David’s table.

This is only a part taken from my sermon on sunday. It’s all about the situation Mephibosheth went through. From losing his loved ones to being deceived by his caretaker. All is a lesson to be learned and apply it to our lives.

tomorrow we are going to look into ziba. A caretaker who became a deceiver
