We might wonder what a spiritual possession is. Its at the moment a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. How is that possible. I thought as a believer of Jesus Christ, only Christ comes into my life. Well he does but it doesn’t stop there. Not only do you receive the Holy Spirit as stated the other day, but now God has a say and a stay within your life.
The word possess means to take control over someone or something. How is that made possible. When we ask Jesus to come into our lives, he then enters into it. It’s a spiritual possession. How is this the case with God. I thought Jesus Christ is the only one.
In John 4:23 it tells us how that is made possible.
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
John 14:23 KJV
When we put God first, this would indicate we love him above everything. As we put him first we want to keep his words. As we keep his words we know we love the father. When we continue to live in the father God he will come and live within us. But Jesus didn’t stop by saying just God but he continues to say our abode with him.
In Romans it is filled with scripture that supports the father and his spirit that dwells within the believers.
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Romans 8:8-11 KJV
We see here many concepts about God living with us. Not only that the power thereof. First we are in the spirit not of the flesh. Many are still living in the old ways of life and can’t see or understand God’s truth and grace. The scriptures plainly states if we live in the spirit, then the spirit of God dwells in them.
The second point, since God raised Jesus from the dead, the same spirit dwells in you. To see this is powerful and help us to understand the value of our relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Third point, God will quicken our mortal bodies. Meaning in God there is love and life, in Jesus there is salvation and in the Holy Spirit there is power or empowerment to do things for God. Once we connect with those things our mortal body will become more alive than ever.
The main thrust of it all is to know that God dwells within us. We can’t make it without the love of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We need to understand the truth of it all. Believers aren’t living to please man but to please God.
Since God’s spirit dwells in the believers of Jesus Christ there should be no other joy we need. Knowing that God is with us in spirit and in truth. We can walk in his ways. Walk in the pathway that he gives us to follow. With God on our side and within us we shouldn’t ask for anything more. God has our lives signed, sealed and delivered.
Our goal is to walk in the authority and the love of Christ. Being consumed by the power of the Holy Spirit, not withholding anything, but continue to serve God out of love and knowing put him first and we will see from a different perspective and that would be from the mind of Jesus Christ
