We are in ROMANS 15:1-6 Stewardship: helping the weaker Christian

We start the teaching with Romans chapter 15:1-6. The reason why Paul wrote this was to inform the Christian in Rome how to continue to live a Godly life of service.

Today we can put what Paul was saying in Romans 15;1-6 is a duty or obligation to Christian to help those who are weak in their faith. This comes under the category of service to others.

For those who are believers of God, Paul already gave instructions on our personal service to God. This week we will see our service to others and to God. Let’s look into today’s text and see what our service is to others.

We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: that ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:1‭-‬6 KJV

What is our duty in service to God. Is to bear the infirmity of the weak. Two factors we are looking at today within this verse alone. 1st is who are the weak and what are the infirmities. The weak are those who don’t really understand the truth of God’s word. They are weak Christian who need to grow in God. Infirmities are things that cause harm to the body. Many people during this time was weak and had very little concept of the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Paul was addressing the people in Rome, a way to strengthen those who were weak in the faith. The stronger believers should help the weaker one.

When we think about the word infirmities, what comes to mind is the infirmity ward in the hospital. Many sick and other people who need their healing are in this ward. They need special care from the doctors and nurses. Within the body of Christ many are weak in their faith and they need a spiritual awakening in their soul. This was why Paul was addressing this issue. As we go about helping those who are spiritually weak, don’t let it be all about yourself.

The truth of the matter is to give God the glory and praise. The praises go to God and not to man for what he has done. When we help those who are weak spiritually it is an act of service to each other. It’s a time of edification and encouraging the weak to become stronger in their faith.

Jesus himself, went around and did as God wanted him to do. He didn’t praise himself but his Father who is God Almighty. Many people whom he ministered to, yet he continued to do the will of his Father. The understanding of today’s teaching lets you understand the power of being a servant of God by helping others.

As we are helping those weak Christian in their faith we can be reminded what the scriptures are about. It’s there to remind us they were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

The power in helping the weak Christian, can build up their Faith. Giving them hope they need to continue on in service for God.

Many push the weaker Christian to the side because they see it’s only a waste of time to teach and help them along the way. This isn’t what God wants the believers to do. We are here to make people into disciples of Christ. Teaching and training them into righteousness. How can we do that if we are so quick to judge others in their faith.

What is the take away from today if nothing else is learned today. It is our service to others, to the point as we help those who are weak in their faith, at one point we both be praising and glorifying the Lord together as we are one.

Today it was about our service to others. Serving others so they can grow in their faith. Do this not in vain glory. Do it because you want others to be in a place of understanding the true concept of God. Once that is done and we are on the same page together, people can glorify God in unity.
