Do you understand our rightful place in God. Today we will be talking about our relationship with God and Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Romans 8:12-17 NKJV
There are several principles Paul was telling those believers in Rome and to us today. He first compared living in the flesh and the spirit. Living the the flesh, will only leads to spiritual death. While in the Spirit, we put away fleshly things. As we look at this principle it’s tell us the results of living by the flesh nature and the spiritual nature. As believers we are obligated to live in our new nature are spiritual man.
What is our rights to God’s kingdom as a believer. We have been adopted into God’s family. We have received the spirit of adoption. We who are believers are no longer in bondage. We have been set free. The enemy what’s to keep our mind and heart in bondage to him, but as believers we have taken on a new Spirit. The Spirit of truth. The truth is in Jesus Christ. Being in him give us the right to become a part of God’s family where we cry ABBA FATHER.
Do you know Paul was continuing to tell the believers in Rome and to us today, we are children of God. How do we identify with that. The Spirit himself bears witness to our spirit we are children of God. In other words when we get a job, we go through serval screening process. Once that is over, we get an id card to let people know we work within the company. So as it is with the believers. Once we accepted Christ Jesus we have been given the right to share in all of the riches in God’s kingdom in heaven and on earth.
What is the believers hope. Our hope is to share in his glory. The glory is that, we are victorious in Jesus Christ. Can you image we share in his suffering as well in his glory. Meaning that as believers in Christ we feel both his pain and his glory. We are heurs of God and co-heirs with Jesus Christ that is why we share in his suffering and in his glory.
What are we entitled to because of our new life in Jesus Christ. All that God has given to us. To understand this one must look into Genesis. God gave man the dominion over all. Therefore in God we have dominion over the flesh man. He no longer has control over the believers.
Finally as we walk in the spirit and put away the things of the flesh, the spirit himself bears witness that we are children of God. Being his child we are than heirs of God and co-heirs with Jesus Christ. We share in his suffering as well as his glory. We have so much going for us as we continue to live our life for him. We know what we must do but what is God’s response to it all. Tomorrow will answer that question
Today let’s be reminded we can call upon God as ABBA FATHER because he is our heavenly father, since we have accepted Jesus Christ as our savior and Lord.
