Today lesson is from the first 6 verses in Romans chapter 7. We will be talking about freedom from sin. We no longer bound to sin, because we belong to Jesus Christ. In other words sin don’t control us, we walk in the newness of Christ.
Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
Romans 7:1-6 NKJV
Our aim today is to remind believers what they been freed from. Today lesson take us to that point. Paul talk about the law within marriage vs our new life in Jesus Christ. A couple who gets married, when one of the spouse dies, they can get married again. The law of the first marriage is no longer active. The can choice to get married again without any problems.
The understanding is we are no longer under the law but under God’s grace. The former law has been put to rest. Jesus came to fulfill the law. The law of sin and death. The law that makes people to sin. Since Christ died on the cross for the entire world, to those who accept him, they do have a new life. A new life in according to the new way of doing and believing.
Paul wanted those at Rome and us today is this point. We should serve in the newness of the spirit, not in the oldness of the letter. What is the reason behind this.
To see the point in what Paul said in the first 6 verses are 1. We have now the right not to live under the old law. The old ways was death and a sinful state of being. This sin is the unrighteous things people have done or continue to do knowing and willing. No regards or remorse to life .
The best thing in living out new life in Christ is. We can have peace with God. The peace in knowing God can bring us joy, love and mostly a mindset of understanding the things of God. As we continue to live for God, our relationship will grow also with him. We are free from the curse of the law. We are not bound to it’s power and control over our lives. Since we have taken on the new man in Jesus Christ the walk and talk we have is control by God’s spirit. Since it’s is control by his spirit we will do the righteous act.
As we know all can come to be free from their sin if unrighteousness. Just believe and receive God’s amazing grace today. We do this by asking Jesus to come into our lives, believing all of what Jesus did and how God moved.
