The lest few chapters of Romans Paul was introducing the condition of man. The condition of man was they were and still are in a sinful state. We saw last week all have sinned a fallen short of God’s glory. We continue to say by obeying the law, given to Moses was impossible to keep. It’s not by works, that a man, had to prove himself in the old testament time. It was their faith in God. Man was counted to be righteous in God, by the faith and obeying what God required from them. Some people outside of the nation of Israel, had faith in God and they were counted righteous unto God.
Today teaching is on being justified. Justified or justify means to be made righteous unto God. This was done by the faith you had in God. This week lessons in Romans chapter 4 is looking at people being justified by God through their faith in God. Today lesson is from Romans chapter 4
What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
Romans 4:1-4 NKJV
We notice last week we talk about boasting. We said we need to boast about the things of God. We in this text see Abraham was counted righteous, or was justified by his faith in God. It wasn’t based on his works but through his faith in God.
The scriptures also said about working, grace, debt. We know when a person work he work for a wage. When he or she gets the paycheck it is debited unto the amount that they worked for. God doesn’t reward you according to your work, but by the faith you have in him. Remember I am referring to the time within the Old testament.
The new testament God still justified people, this is based on you giving your life to Jesus Christ. We will talk more about this later on in the coming days. For now it’s Abraham time to shine.
Remember what I said about payment for service rendered. Yes Abraham work in the field, the did get his reward for doing that. His greatest reward was his faith and belief in God. He had faith in God to the point God made his to be the father of many nations. Not just that but his seed would be blessed. Abraham didn’t see all that he was being blessed with but the blessing went down from generation to generation.
All of this was the promise to Abraham, because God found favor with him. Abraham was found to be be made righteous in God through his faith in God.
How is your faith walk? Are you relying on the things you do to please God?God find pleasure in you because of your faith in Jesus Christ. Paul after his encounter with Jesus, his life was change. He knew he must walk by faith and not by sight. putting his faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Knowing God was with him and the Holy Spirit will be leading him along the way.
Finally, be justified by God by faith according the scriptures. It shouldn’t be by works but by faith in Jesus Christ. We should boast on the things God and not the things we do for him. Be justified in God. Let your life be counted righteous unto God.
