Rules of conduct

Taking a look into Romans chapter 2 verses 12 thru 16. What are these verses referring to. If we go deep into these scriptures, we will see and understand what Paul was saying here. It’s was about the law given unto Moses.

How did some Gentiles reacted to the rules of conduct towards God. How could people without the law of Moses be able to become righteous in God’s sight. Let’s look at some rules of conduct some Gentiles had govern themselves by.

Let’s look at Paul, as he continues to address this letter to those in Rome.

All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
Romans 2:12‭ -‬ 16

Paul, in these verses was telling them at Rome, about the law. The Law, which was given to Moses, as a guide on how Israel as a nation should live towards God. In other words since the nation of Israel was God’s chosen nation, God gave them laws to be govern by. The book of law in the old testament, was not to make people perfect, but to make them aware of the LORD ALMIGHTY. Knowing apart from God they couldn’t do anything.

When Paul wrote to the people, it was both to the Jews and to the Gentiles, for the soul purpose pointing them to the cross. In fact the new laws was now in place. The New concept was Salvation is found in no other than Jesus Christ. Paul in verse 12 speaks on the law in a way that we might not understand today.

Paul, was informing those in Rome, about the concept of the law pertaining to the Jews and the Gentiles. summarizing these verses, I need to put it this way. To the Jewish people or God’s chosen people Israel . They were given the law by Moses, yet some didn’t live by it. Therefore you will be judge by God accordingly. This was the message Paul was given to the Jewish people at this time. As we see later in this chapter how the Jewish people responded to the law of Moses.

How was men counted righteous in God sight according to Paul’s writings? Those who obey the law will be counted righteous. The old testament was dealing with laws and how people needed to apply them in their lives. God place the law of Moses on the nation Israel. According to what Paul said here, Gentiles was obeying God and they didn’t have the direct laws given to Moses.

Without those laws, they showed themselves to be a testimony unto God. They had the law written on their heart. Since they had the law of God, on their heart they did things the law required. What areas did the Gentiles understood the rules of conduct when it came to God. First it was in their heart. Second it was their conscience, third it was their thoughts. Each part played a roll for their righteousness unto God durn that time.

The heart was the law written on. The conscience bore witness to God’s truth. The thoughts was a way of defending their actions. Later on in Romans chapter 10 we will see Paul talking about the heart, and mouth. The Gentiles may not had the law of Moses directly but to some took God to heart, to the mind, and their soul. This is why Paul address this letter to those at Rome. God will judge people secrets through Jesus Christ.

To sum it all up, we should have God’s commands, or his word written on our heart. Follow his truth, and his ways for your life. God knows your inner most secrets of your life, and you will be judge accordingly. So honor God, come to know Jesus Christ, to get a better Understanding of the new law. As we continue to study the book of Romans, let’s rediscover God’s truth and meaning that Paul wrote to Rome and why.
