One thing we see within the Old Testament, God calling people. God calling people to do those things he has already assign that person to do. Let’s look at Jeremiah chapter 1:4-10, to see what the bible is telling us, on how God calls us, and our responsibility to receive his calling
As we look at Jeremiah God came to him. The reason why, to let Jeremiah know even before he was born God had already ordained him to be a prophet to the nations.
the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Jeremiah 1:4-5 KJV
What we notice here is 3 points. We see word of the Lord came upon Jeremiah. We see the work Jeremiah was ordained to do. The last thing was Jeremiah was set apart to such wonderful works
In this statement the LORD gave Jeremiah a work to do. That work was to be a prophet to the nations. Notice the LORD spoke these words not man. God set apart Jeremiah long before he knew it. This is our guideline to receive from God. God will come unto you and tell you or point out your specific task that he has appointed you to do. It’s up to us to receive this calling or appointment.
Now here come the excuse. Most of the time when God call people out for a specific reason, people try to find an excuse. If you know it’s from God and he has come, and spoke it to you, than there are no excuses. How did Jeremiah respond to this. Does he really receive from God this calling at first.
Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
Jeremiah 1:6 KJV
He gave an excuse. The excuse was he was to young to do such work. He can’t speak he’s just a child. How many of us has given an excuse to do what God called us to do. Do we understand the concept, with God there is no blockage, no hindrance, as we are set apart to do the work, With God all things are possible if we believe. It’s aaccording to his will. Don’t give God any excuses when he has called you out and unto service for him.
God reply to Jeremiah was this
But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
Jeremiah 1:7-8 KJV
God command to Jeremiah is like this you are not to young I will be with you. I will be with you wherever I send you. Don’t be afraid of the faces, I am with thee to deliver thee. This is a bold statement and a comfort in knowing I don’t need to be afraid, God will be there to watch over me. One thing he said go to all the places I send you. Do you know when God call us and we receive that call we are now under God’s authority? He will send us to places, but some people goes to places God never called them to go to. Within this the message is go where God send us. Receive from God the places that he is directing us to go to. This is obedience to God. God’s hand covers us as we go forth, to the places he wants us in.
We notice God is calling out whom he already ordained. Within the text we notice how God gave Jeremiah the confidence in doing what he has been set out to do. God will place the words in Jeremiah mouth. Therefore don’t look at the statue of a person but look at the anointing on the person that God has place on their lives. The next part is very important to know.
Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
Jeremiah 1:9 KJV
Since we are now living under grace and the Holy Spirit is here, God will give us words to say by the leading of the Holy Spirit. As we receive from God the words to say we proclaim it with power and might of the Holy Spirit. God told Jeremiah he will give him the words to say. Yet you saw how God was able to do it. God put forth his hand and touch Jeremiah mouth. Let God be your mouthpiece.let him speak through you by the indwelling of the holy spirit. What did Jeremiah receive from God. He received the power to speak the word as God gave him.
Today to sum it all up God placed into Jeremiah, while he was in the mother’s womb, a calling to be a prophet. He already had that on him, but God had to come in and tell Jeremiah the calling on his life. Jeremiah had to receive from God first, to really understand all of God’s truth. Second he has to realize God called him out for a reason. Since that happened God just assured Jeremiah what he had in him. The place God calls him to go, God is there. Another point taken away is to receive from God, you need faith in knowing all will be well.
As we continue this lesson tomorrow we will be talking on Jeremiah 1:10. We will be looking at how God will place other into places they need to be. Continue to be bless as you read our post .
