When a promise is made it is an agreement between two or more people. Something you might make a promise to yourself, such as I will only eat sweets on special events.
Let’s look at Rahab and her family the only people God protected during the time when the wall of Jericho fell. After that they lived with the Israelites. God gave them to be part of his family. Like today it’s the same.
Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her.” So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother, her brothers and sisters and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel. Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the Lord’s house. But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho—and she lives among the Israelites to this day. At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: “Cursed before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: “At the cost of his firstborn son he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”
Joshua 6:22-26 NIV
When we look in the text we notice not just Rahab but her entire family was spared. Don’t it sound familiar. Throughout the bible we see people being saved and than being a part of the family of God. I do think Rahab and her family believed in the power of God. It tell us also of God’s protection in the midst of destruction. When the army listen to the instructions of God, God moved and the walls of Jericho fell down. Yet inside the city people died but lives was saved also.
When we read the scriptures, and see the events unfold it’s there to remind us God is more powerful than we can image. His saving grace and mercy help people to come into his family. Why looking at Rahab a lesson within itself.
First it tells of God’s love. His love toward us. We may not be the best person but God can spare our life. A person my know about God, not until he see those wonder works of God they will come to know him. God love reaches out to any on who wants to be a part of his family.
Second it tells us of promises made. The promise or deal made by the spies and Rahab. This is found in Joshua chapter 2 as we talked about before. Both made the deal and they both kept their promises. God trust us to be honest with him. We can be honest and truthful to him in a way that shows love towards him. Trusting in God is about having faith in all things he has done. The mist of all coming to him by the way of the cross. The cross was when Christ died for the world and we are redeem by his blood. All we need to do is accept him and believe in all things of God.
Third and final thing is being a part of the family of God. It’s said Rahab lived amoung the Israelites. God knows your heart and desire. I do think Rahab had a change of heart. She was able to be a part of the Israelites family, but she wasn’t just a part, she was a very special person in that time. She became one on many in the bloodline of Jesus.
You never know how important you are to God’s family until God moves on your life. During her time in Jericho would Rahab ever thing she would be someone special to the throne of God. She was part of the bloodline that David was born. We know Jesus came from the bloodline of David. A seed of Jesse. Boaz offspring. What a wonderful way to be reminded of this one thing
God uses all of us in a way to uplift his kingdom. Are we ready to serve him and do as he instructed us to do. This events if someone wasn’t true to the word, things would have been out of line with God’s purpose and plan. Do as instructed and be blessed in the process. What you do for God and Jesus Christ now will have an everlasting chain of events happening even after you have died. You may not know it but your life is touching people that you don’t know.
Thank you God for using me to make a difference in the world I live in. This is my pray for the believers in Christ all over the world
