Deal or no deal

Deal or no deal is an everyday thing. We find it in many expect of life, from buying a car to a million dollar contract in the business word. Even in the sports, people are asking for higher pay. If the pay is right than they make the deal. If what they are asking for isn’t what the offer is than they say no deal. Again this comes to play in our society today, Deal or no deal. What deal are you making at the moment that you are looking it over. Is the cost of a car is high. The house you want is to much for the asking price. It’s either a deal or no deal. I found out at time both party come to a conclusion so it closed and final. They made a deal that will satisfy both party.

Today in our look into Joshua chapter 2 the deal was on between Rahab and the spies. What was the deal and how will it satisfy both party. Let’s look into Joshua chapter 2.

Here is the background of it all Rahab is confronted the spies and she spell it out like it is this she said

Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof and said to them, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
Joshua 2:8‭-‬11 NIV

She was letting them know, the message of how the God of the isrealites have provided and protected them. The protection was from the weather to war. When people hear and see the work of the God they tremble with fear. By them seeing the isrealites on the banks of the Jordan River they knew the city of Jericho was next to be taken by the isrealites.

Since she fugure out was going on she strike a plea bargain or in other word a deal to stay alive, not just her but her family.

Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death.” “Our lives for your lives!” the men assured her. “If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the Lord gives us the land.” So she let them down by a rope through the window, for the house she lived in was part of the city wall. She said to them, “Go to the hills so the pursuers will not find you. Hide yourselves there three days until they return, and then go on your way.” Now the men had said to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house. If any of them go outside your house into the street, their blood will be on their own heads; we will not be responsible. As for those who are in the house with you, their blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on them. But if you tell what we are doing, we will be released from the oath you made us swear.” “Agreed,” she replied. “Let it be as you say.” So she sent them away, and they departed. And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.
Joshua 2:12‭-‬21 NIV

You know with a contract it comes with a stipulations. There are many stipulations with the above deal. She is asking the spies to show kindness to my family on your return. 1. Don’t tell nobody about us taking over the land. 2. Place a scarlet cord in the window. This window was the window that the spies was let down. 3. Nobody is to leave your house once the battle began. If they do death will be upon them. 4. If you tell anyone about this you and your family will be killed. The contract will be voided out.

They both agreed on the terms and conditions. She sent them on their way. They departed and she tied a scarlet cord in the window.

We will continue the story the next time. For now the question to answer is are you making a deal with God or Satan. When we chose Christ we are making a deal with God. We are drafted into his family. Later in the story we will se how Rahab was drafted into God’s family. If you don’t look up to God you will be looking down at Satan.

Today was about deal or no deal. We see Rahab and the spies both had a deal on the line. Are we going to surrender all to Jesus or will hold on to a lie from Satan. We can’t make you to chose but with Christ is life eternal but with Satan is death eternal. It is a deal to serve God and live or not taking the deal and die. It’s all in your hands now.
