Tamar set up Judah to sleep with her.

Who is Tamar and why was Judah setup by her? Tamar was the daughter in law to Judah. Unknown to Judah Tamar dressed up as a prostitute. Why would she go that far? Could it be time was running out for her to have children. Was she made and out to get justice in her own hands. All those questions we don’t know but one thing I do know is she deceived Judah and the end result was she had twins. For now let look at this situation. Let’s look at Genesis 38:13-16

When Tamar was told, “Your father-in-law is on his way to Timnah to shear his sheep,” she took off her widow’s clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife. When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, “Come now, let me sleep with you.”

She was a widow because of her husband died. Her husband was Judah”s son that was why she was in the widows clothes. She knew Judah was on the way and she dress up as a prostitute. Judah saw her and desire to sleep with her. Remember this story because it was another encounter down the bloodline that involved king David..

What happens next was unbelievable. And what will you give me to sleep with you?” she asked. “I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,” he said. “Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?” she asked. He said, “What pledge should I give you?” “Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand,” she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him. After she left, she took off her veil and put on her widow’s clothes again.

What will you give back to me in return for our encounter. First Judah said he will give her a youg goat from from his flock. Maybe she was thinking he might not send the goat to her. He could back out of the deal. She up the stakes. Here is the deal until I get the goat I want these items from you. She wanted his seal, and its cord. She also wanted his staff or walking stick. This item was important as if it identify the person whom the items belong to. One twist to all of this is now shevis with child or should I say twins. After the encounter she went and put her widow clothes back on.

This was an setup by Tamar. She knew what she was doing. Yet Judah didn’t recognize here. This isn’t the end. What we will witness tomorrow is many things. Come back and be apart of how the tribe of Judah began. The main focus is the fallout from the encounter between Tamar and Judah.

We see things being done between both people. Who was at fault. Both was guilty of in their own rights. He shouldn’t allow such act to occur, but it did. She planned this from the start as soon as she heard the news her father in law was coming into down. All this happened after he got over the mourning of his wife.

We now sin come to us with these things in mind. Lust of the eyes, desire of the soul, and thus it brings on the sin. All those elements did Judah had within him. We need to be careful we don’t let creed, lust,or the folly of this world consume us.

I have been down that road of life and it had its consequences. People being hurt, being scared but if we ask forgiveness to those who done us wrong and confess our wrong to God, he will forgive us. This doesn’t mean we continue the same act over and over again. We find comfort in knowing God is just and what Jesus Christ did do for the entire world. We can have freedom in Chrust and God. Whatever we do don’t let sin overtake us. Be filled with the spirit of God and let his truth be real in your life today and forevermore.
