This week we are looking into the authority we have in Jesus Christ. Within this week we will be breaking down those things which Jesus Christ shared, to help us understand our authority in him. At the close of this week we will be walking in our authority of Christ. We will be taken back those things the enemy has taken from us. We will understand the word Authority much better and how much authority we have by knowing Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.
Today is more about the word authority. This word was used in Matthew 28:18 by Jesus himself. The King James Version has the word power. New International Version has the word authority. Looking at what Jesus was saying, and to really break it down we can say this. Jesus said all the authority or power is given unto me in heavens and in earth. Stop and see that Jesus has now receive all power and authority. The word itself means the power, or right to give orders, and enforce obedience. Jesus receiving the power or authority is commanding the disciples to go and teach to all nations, as they teach, also baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. What are they to teach? Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.
Within the gospel the words of Jesus speaks sharply. we see Jesus teaching and sharing with others the ways of God. Who God is and his purpose. When we understand and get a concept of what Jesus was saying we can conclude this, there is life in knowing God. the words gives us instruction in righteousness and the consequences if we don’t listen to the word or believe in the the things of God.
Matthew 28:18 wasn’t the only place we find Jesus talking to his disciples about spreading the word, not just spreading but teaching it. Mark 16:15-19 what he left there was another good point of Jesus authority. Authority is a person who has power and is left in change to give people command of doing something. If we don’t do the command or follow their instructions we might be terminated or get demoted to another position within the company.
We see in Mark 16:15 Jesus left the command to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Second thing we notice of what Jesus said was this. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. we can cross reference to John chapter 3. about being born again. Those who don’t believe shall be damned. Remember Jesus already at this point said he had all power or authority in heaven and in earth. Jesus knew already people will be saved and some wont be save but we shouldn’t worry about that because God already has worked it out. It is up to us to follow the command that Jesus gave.
Many at this time was fighting the good fight of faith. They knew if they ministered to other at this time they had to have proof of the authority of God. Some might say why should we believe in your God. What is the proof behind it all. Jesus because of his knowledge knew that certain things will happen to those who are spreading the word of God. Danger was on every hand and on every side. God’s power had to be reviled so others can come into believing in Jesus and the things of God.
Jesus now having the power or authority, had to remind the disciples of one key factor. the that signs will follow them that believes in Jesus are, drive out demons, they will speak in new tongues, they will pick up snakes with their hands. Most get this part wrong, if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them. and they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. This did happen along the way in the book of Acts with Paul and other apostles because of their faith in him.
Today we was looking at the authority Jesus has. His authority to tell his disciples to go and teach or preach the word of God. since JESUS had the authority, and the disciples answer the call, but are we doing the commanded of God. Going out to tell others the good news. bringing people to know and understand god’s ways. JESUS did say in Matthew 28:20 telling his disciples to teach OTHERS TO observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.
Jesus final act of his authority while on earth, was to push other to spread the word and we need to walk in the authority of Jesus. people are hurting and dying in the world so we must continue to do the command that Jesus left us to do.
