As Paul continue to go his way on the second missionary journey he came to Philippi. It was there he came across a person by the name of Lydia.
Who was Lydia. What did she do for a living. Why did Luke added her name into his writing. Lets see how Paul and the other met Lydia
Acts 16:11-15 KJV
Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis; and from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days. And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither . And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us : whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us , saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there . And she constrained us.
Lydia was a person who sold clothes to the people of Thyatira. She was a believer and worshipped God. The day she meet Paul and the others her entire life changed
When a personal encounter happens
What happen to people when they encounter the truth about God. Many may came to him, but do they have that personal relationship to God. Its not just about being saved but having the personal time with God. The one on one encounter with God himself. You see on that day there were many woman but only one was mentioned by name.
See how God moved on her life. God opened her heart to understand the men of God.
God will come to us in many ways but for Lydia it was through the words of the Apostles. She listens very carefully to the word in which Paul spoke. The results that took place was of how God move into here heart.
The results of her being there that day was
1. She was baptized and her household
2. She welcome them into her home
3 they stayed there for a while
God moved in one family because of the act of obedience. For Lydia it started off as a normal day but God was able to move in her life and here entire family. When God power moves it will causes change in your life and those around you. I do believe Paul and the others stayed there to teach them the word and truth of God. The forgiveness of sins and how a person can be restored back to God.
The only way is that of Jesus Christ. The Messiah, the kings of kings, and Lord of Lords. Only by the Name of Jesus Christ we can be save.
Ask God, confess yours sins before him. Recieve and believe what Christ Jesus did on the cross. He died so we could live. Live a life worth living and living for God’s truth and his word.
Today was a reminder if we have an open heart and mind for Jesus Christ he will come in and be with us forever. Our lives are restored into the proper relationship with God. Nothing we did but what God did long time ago. He gave his son so we could live. The life we life for him in the spirit will be eternal. A place of rest and peace.
We all will have eternal life but it is up to you where you want to spend it. A place of light, rest and peace or a place of darkness and gloom. No rest no peace.
Ask, seek, knock for God is there waiting for you to recieve salvation that comes through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
