ACTS 6
THE SEVEN WAS CHOSEN
We go into this chapter and learn about how some people are being left out or not receiving their part of what is needed.
Act 6:1-2
In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.
How can we both serve the people food and do what God have for us to do. It wouldn’t be right to stop one and work on the other. For this reason they decided to do the following.
Acts 6:3-4
Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”
Key points are spoken of in these two verses.
1. They had to choose 7 men. These men need to be
Full of the spirit and wisdom. This was so because of how God will be directed their lives and how they will be interacting with people. They just can pick anybody. They had to pick people who had wisdom or wise and know the truth and filled with the holy spirit.
2. This is their assignments. They was to see that foodcand other things was givin out equally. They didn’t want anymore disharmony with the people. The preferred unity among the people.
The apostles would continue to give their time and effort of service in prayer and the ministring of the word.
Who was the 7 choosen?
Acts 6:5-7
This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
What action was taken?
They found 7 men to help them. They were
Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.
Why such men? They was to be filled with the holy spirit and had great wisdom. They all was presented to the apostles. The apostles prayed over them and laid hand on them. In other words they was charging them to do great works within the ministry. The numbers of disciples were being added.
One man stood out in the 7 and his name was stephen. He was a man filled with the holy spirit and had great faith. More on him tomorrow.
We now if something big is happening we need people to help us out. We have to pick people who are willing and that we can trust. Jesus went out and got the diciples. They didn’t come to Jesus. The point is don’t allow things to get you overwhelmed before it get out of control. Seek God and ask God to lead you to people who could aid you in the work of the ministry.
Finally there will always a person who will stand out and up for God. The favor of God is on his or her life. It will show because of the spirit he or she has within them. You could be that person already and don’t even know it. In time if you are God will do wonderful things within you and it will then be release so other will know and understand that faith you have within. The seven had that faith but one was only mention God blessing was upon him.
I pray we will see God’s truth and apply it to our lives today. Understand and know God always have somebody to help us. He wont put on us what we cant bare Amen
