A WORD FOR TODAY
JULY 8 2020
WHEN WE HIDE THE TRUTH
ACTS 5:1-11
We are back as promised. We are walking through the book of Acts. We will be on chapter 5:7-11 a look at the untold truth and the result from it.
We talked about Ananias and what happen to him as he told a lie. Today we are going to see what happen to his wife Sapphira.
About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?” “Yes,” she said, “that is the price.” Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.” At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
Acts 5:7-10 NIV
What went on in the passage of scripture is key elements we must learn.
1st always give back to God and never hold back
The truth is Sapphira lied before man and God. Both her and her husband held back part of the money they got from selling their land. All of it was to go towards helping those that was in need and to help with the ministry workof that time. We must give unto God all that is required of us without holding back. We never know what a blessing it could be to others or ourselves if we give 100 percent to God.
2nd truth is you can’t get away with it.
You may cover up somethings in life and get away with it. God see and knows all that you say and do. Peter already knew what happen to Anania, yet I believe he was giving Sapphira a time to come clean and confess to their wrong doing.
Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?” “Yes,” she said, “that is the price.” Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord?
The Lord knows and see all you can’t get away from telling a lie. We must understand the truth as it was back then. When God say you must and you are serving him you need to obey and honor him. Ananias or Sapphire properly didn’t know the cost of lying and covering up the lie. She came out and confess that was what they got for the land. She boldly told a lie and that is why Peter said what he said
3rd truth A wake up call
What happened next was an eye opening experience.
Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.” At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
Since you and you husband want to lie before men and God. Not obeying direct order from him then go be with your husband. She died at that moment. The result in not doing and lying to God. She gell down at his geet and died. She was buried beside her husband. Two lies and holding back from God ended in death.
The way to look at the entire passage from Acts chapter 5:1-11 is this.
Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
Acts 5:11 NIV
Why was this? It was a new start of something big. Never in their life they seen such wonderful working of God being manifesting in such a powerful way. By looking at Acts 5:1-11 you will see the importance of telling the truth and being honest before both men and God. God don’t approve of people holding back on him or not giving their all for him. Most of all not telling the truth. God knows and see all. He see you committing a sin or wrong doing.
Once we confess our faults and be honest and sincere unto God, than he will forgive us. He will remember that sin no more. We can’t continue in that sin because to do wrong and know it wrong God don’t approve of it.
The word for today is trust in God. Give unto him all, not withholding anything from him. It will only make you stronger in your faith but in the long run it will be a blessing to others.
We will continue to look into Acts to see and understand how things were at that time and how we can apply the truth in our lives today.
