Acts 5:1-11
Be honest and truthful
Part 1
A look at Ananias
Today when we look into acts chapter 5 we have to see what was taking place and how it was done. You might say it’s not the way it’s done today but at that time and space the people was doing what they felt in their heart.
If we take a look at Acts 4 it spoke on how people was selling and giving it back to the those who need it.
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. Acts 4:32 NIV
All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.
Acts 2:44-45 NIV
The custom at this time was to sell and share property and possession and share it with each other. I think they felt at peace of what they was doing because it only help people out and it help the word of God to be spread across the land.
Today we read about two people who sold their land but held back. Lets start with what they had agreed on.
1. The both came to the conclusion to hold on to some of the money from the selling of the property. Sin
2. They both lie about giving all the money they recieved. Sin
When we recieve a blessing from God, part of that blessing is to help others. What could happen if we don’t. Do you know you are sinning agaist God. When God tells us to do a thing and we don’t that is worst than Adam eating the fruit. This is how the story reads in Acts 5:1-11
Part 1 Ananias
Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.
Acts 5:1-2
Part 2 THE LIE
Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
Acts 5:3-4 NIV
Holding on to part of the money. Lying to both man and God. Greed and control if you think about it. Yet it is all a sin. Knowing what people was doing and how they was doing it at that time.
Jesus spoke a parable about people who do share their gifting. Yet we see here they shared it but not fully. We need to fully share the talents, our gifting to those who needed the most. The body of christ and those who need God in their lives. It will bring changes to tbe lives of others and you will recieve more blessing in your life.
The final outcome
When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.
Acts 5:5-6 NIV
Don’t let greed, power, sin, the cares of this life over power you. Don’t short change the things of God. He see and knows all. With Ananias he lied before God and men. He held back. This didn’t get him no where. He died in his sin. He died before the could say anything else. The power of God back then and people had to wrap his body up and carried him out to bury him.
Be aware on how you short change God in all that you do and say. You never know what your action will cause. Just like the cause and effect. You may not do what God told you to do but that will have an everlasting effect on you and those around you.
Again God see and know all. Don’t short change in not just in money but in deed also.
