We are still talking about a life for a life. We are posting things on what Jesus went through before the cross. Today we are looking at the Last supper of Jesus Christ. Most would review this as the Lord Supper or communion. This took place just a few hours upon Jesus Christ arrest.
To see the light of it all here is what the scriptures says about the event. This event is recorded in the gospel writings as well as Paul letters within the Bible.
Matthew 26:26 NIV
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
1 Corinthians 11:23-24 NIV
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
To understand this we must go forward and see what Jesus was saying.
The body is the source of it all. It houses all of your enternal resources. Without the body none of the organs will not work properly. Jesus saying the bread represent his body. Let’s look at what happen to body of Christ.
How much can your body take. Can you endure the extreme heat or cold. Can you take punches to the body like in a boxing or wrestling match. Is your body in the shape it needs to be in for the duration. Those question you might ask yourself as you go through life, but how was Jesus body was able to withstand all that it went through before the cross and upon the cross.
I do think when the angels came to Jesus they ministered to him. We don’t know what they said or did but I do believe what the angel did that night gave Jesus the power to face what was about to come forth.
What Jesus faced before the cross was shame, humiliation, totally a beat down. The reason why I said this people didn’t recognize Jesus after that night.
This is my body. I Think Jesus was using analogy on the bread in many ways. First we see the bread as his body. He didn’t say the bread represents his body until after he broke it. Many points can be taken from this one point is that his body will be broken not his bones but his body itself. Skin was ripped off his body as he was whipped. In other words his body was broken for us. The second thing we see he was pierced in the side, again his body broken for us. Spike, nails or stakes driven into his hands and feet. Another point of is body being broken.
Now we see at this point Jesus Christ said this is my body. His body represent God’s truth and one point he said he is the Bread of life. So another analogy Jesus could be making is this those who come to follow him their lives will be broken from the past things. Jesus Christ as he represents life a man without sin who became sin for the world so we could live. Jesus is the life of the world. He is the source of all existing in the world today. When Jesus said the bread was his body meaning it was to be seen of what Christ Jesus went through before and during the cross.
The bread that was broken at the last supper we can see it as a representation of the fact of Jesus Christ body that would be and broken for the world that those who believe in Jesus name would have everlasting life. The truth of it all is not just his body was broken but the blood that was shed for us as well.
We will be looking at the wine that represents the body of Christ tommorow. Until then let see the Lord Supper from a view point of a place knowing and understanding God and Jesus in a different light. Salvation come in knowing all that Jesus did and how God was able to sent his son to die on the cross in such away for us, for me, for you, for the world. All we have to do is come to him and receive the fact of all that God had planned.
