In the time of distress God is able

This week we are looking into the prayer that Jonah prayed. There are some good points to make take from his prayer. Did he pray all three days and nights until the fish threw him out. We really don’t know that but we do know that he prayed.

Even in the middle of a situation Jonah knew that the trouble he created. Yet he went to God in prayer. No matter who you are we all need to do some prayer. If you don’t know how to prayer read the Lord’s prayer. It’s a model that all prayers should follow. Let’s look at Jonah and see what his prayer was about.

Jonah 2:1‭-‬4 NIV

From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord , and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’

Jonah praying inside of the fish made some statement about God protection.

1. I am safe and it was all because you hear me in my cry. Even within the midst of tragedy God can save and rescue you. To the point where you might be running away from God. He is able to work with those who have a willing spirit.

2. Knowing God is in control. Jonah said I will look again to your holy temple. He is inside of the belly of the fish. Among the dead things that the fish had eaten. Jonah also said he was tossed about in the sea. Not only that but what Jonah went through was a way of him knowing God is his protection.

3. The reason why this is because of things we see here. He cried to the Lord. Those things that was coming upon him was a mighty force of nature. The element of the sea was against him. Yet he said he will see the Lord temple again. Therefore he never gave up hope, he realized God did what he had to do for a reason.

4. Jonah found himself safe in the fish belly. He said to God I may be banished from your sight but it won’t stop me from getting back to your holy place which is the temple.

The power of God is seen here can you see it. God action to Jonah for not doing what he was told. He was banished into the fish belly. How many time have we done things wrong. Our parents had to punish us or put us in restrictions. God gave going his time out. Since you don’t want to obey me, I have to leave you with no other options. Until you realize the errors of your ways this is your punishment. Again Jonah saw the protection of God all around him even while in the belly of the fish.

Today though is let God be God and you listen to all he has to say. Most of all when we are facing a situation, it could be sent from God. He might have allow Satan to ruffle or feathers just a little. The real test is to see how we are going to come out of it. Will we come out of f it victorious and we can continue to the next level. Knowing God I came through this trusting in you. I know you are hearing me in the time of my distress.

On the other hand we have people who quickly give in and feel defeated. They don’t want to fight the battle. They surrender to soon. Not allowing God to come in and work it out for them.

Just know Jonah may have gone the other direction. Did he deserve what he got from God. We who don’t trusted and do as God instructs us to do will face the consequences. Jonah saw the errors of his ways. As Johan started out he cried out to God and realized God answered him. God provided him protection. In the midst of it all Jonah never gave up hope. He said I may not see your sight but I will see your holy temple again.

Give it all to God, live for him with a full heart. Just love on Jesus and let the Holy Spirit led you into places God want you to be. Be bless and tomorrow we will continue with the PRAYER OF JONAH and see what God is saying to us from his word.
