The cost of retaliation a look into Samson life.

As we start off Romans 12:17-18 is a good starting point for today topic.

ROMANS 12:17-18

17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

We all want to get the revenge on those who did us wrong. Yet God tells us not to pay evil for evil. Revenge belongs to God and in time God will get the justice we are seeking. We don’t know what the other person is going through. Remorse it possiblity. They might be laughing knowing they got away with something, but in the long run God will repay those that have did you wrong by his own hands.

With Samson it all started when his wife was married off to another man. This was the time he went back home to his parents house. He was upset and angry of what his wife did and what those men did. Let’s look into Book of Judges chapter 15.

Judges 15:1‭-‬2 NIV

Later on, at the time of wheat harvest, Samson took a young goat and went to visit his wife. He said, “I’m going to my wife’s room.” But her father would not let him go in. “I was so sure you hated her,” he said, “that I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more attractive? Take her instead.”

We see here the woman that Samson loved and care for has now been married off to another man. The reason behind this was the fact, Samson left her behind. Her father might had thought this in his mind. If Samson really cared for his wife he would have taken her with him. Trying to please Samson of his mistake, the father offers his other daughter to Samson but he refused.

This made Samson made. He was about to do something out of revenge but not thinking what the cost would be. With a person is angry about something they do not think of the ramifications. In our daily life we are face with things that people do to us but some get their revenge or seek justice for wrong doing.

We must learn one thing God is the judge and he see and knows all. He will repay the wrong done over your life. May not be now but when God justice is done it will be done.

Let look and see how Samson handle things after he went back to see his wife.

Judges 15:3‭-‬5 NIV

Samson said to them, “This time I have a right to get even with the Philistines; I will really harm them.” So he went out and caught three hundred foxes and tied them tail to tail in pairs. He then fastened a torch to every pair of tails, lit the torches and let the foxes loose in the standing grain of the Philistines. He burned up the shocks and standing grain, together with the vineyards and olive groves.

How did Samson responded. First out of revenge. He said now I have the right to get even. Was that a wise choice. Could he have ask God to help him out. He acted on impulses and not thinking in his right mind. He could have had hatred, he could have been made of all that had happened in the few days. His wife is now taken into marriage by another man. A person that was at the wedding feast.

He knew what he was doing causing harm to the Philistines by destroying their harvest. He did this by setting fire to the fields as the foxes was bundled by two and their tail was set on fire.

He figured he will get even with the people by destroying they food and money supply. This was just the start of the tragic events that was going to play out. Here are thing that happened with this short time span.

1 Samson went back to wife but she was remarried. Her father refused Samson to see her

2 Samson father in-law said take his other daughter

3. Samson set fire to the harvest crops by setting loose foxes with their tail on fire.

4. The crops was destroyed and people were made because of this

At point 4 we will continue later for part two. Looking at how the Philistines got their revenge over the situation.

Retaliation causes more things to happen. It is never an ending solution until the other party dies or damage is done that nothing can be fix or repaired.

Today a look a Samson. How he acted and how he got his revenge on a situation that could all been voided if people would come together and talk about things that is troubling them.

On that note when things happens in life and you feel threatened just go and find the help you need. Pray to God for the help with the problem. The more we hold things in the more we will hurt ourself, our love ones, or even those around us. In the case of Samson, his wife, and many other thing could have been avoided and problem could have been solved.

Trust God allow him to give you the answer you need. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t look or seek out justice for yourself. Only hardship, and danger will come after that. Live at peace and try to work things out in the long run.
