WOW!!! What excitement. What trill. How can a person be so tricked into spilling the answer.
All of those things plus more we are in the book of Judges chapter 14. It all start out by Samson saying if you can give me the answer to a riddle than I will give things to you.
Judges 14:12-14 NIV
Let me tell you a riddle,” Samson said to them. “If you can give me the answer within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes. If you can’t tell me the answer, you must give me thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.” “Tell us your riddle,” they said. “Let’s hear it.” He replied, “Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet.” For three days they could not give the answer.
This riddle came after Samson killed a young lion. After sometime bees made a honey nest with the carrcus of the lion. Samson did eat the honey and gave some to his parents but he didn’t tell them of where it came. The riddle was to be answered with seven days or things would be given to Samson and his wife.
What happened next was almost like blackmail and trickery on both the Philistines side and from the wife of Samson. This is the events that unfolded.
Judges 14:15-17 NIV
On the fourth day, they said to Samson’s wife, “Coax your husband into explaining the riddle for us, or we will burn you and your father’s household to death. Did you invite us here to steal our property?” Then Samson’s wife threw herself on him, sobbing, “You hate me! You don’t really love me. You’ve given my people a riddle, but you haven’t told me the answer.” “I haven’t even explained it to my father or mother,” he replied, “so why should I explain it to you?” She cried the whole seven days of the feast. So on the seventh day he finally told her, because she continued to press him. She in turn explained the riddle to her people.
Look at the situation she is in to get the answer and no harm will be done to her family. If not than her and her father’s household will be burn to death. She manage to get the answer from her husband by tricking him into saying if you really love me you will tell me the answer to the riddle. She did this in a subtle way. Crying and just pleading her case against Samson. She keep on pressing to get the answer she needed.
The point we see here is this she pressed her way to get the answer from Samson, because she knew what will happen if he never told her.
Are you at the desperation point? You will do anything so you won’t go through a situation. People are like this. God said you must go through inorder to come out victorious. If we would just be honest about things and not cover them up or sweep them under the rug than most of our problem will be taken care of.
God is saying to us all he is in control don’t allow the enemy the footstool to come in and steal the moment of your joy or happiness. Seek God and all those things will be taken care of. He will give you the advice you need to make it. No need to worry just have faith in him and he will deliver you out of the hands of your enemy.
