FOLLOW ME I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN.

The title says it all. Jesus went out and got the people he needed to be around him. They was just doing their own thing yet they went and follow Jesus.

Words we be looking at today follow and disciples. This all is the account when went out and got the people he needed to be around. All four gospel gives an account of this event. Let’s review and see how things happen but this time let get into the place and see the event unfold before our eyes.

Matthew 4:12-25, Mark 1:16-21, Luke 5:1-11, John 1:35-51. Those are the account when Jesus got his disciples.

To see and understand this we have to define two words follow and disciples. A follower must have somebody do follow, a disciple must have somebody to train them and as they are being trained by that person he or she will follow that person.

Follow is go or come after, to ahead to, pay close attention to.

Disciples – to be schooled by a person, to be taught in a way that you will follow somebody else. Follower of Christ.

Jesus went out and got his disciples. Why? He needed some people who he can teach the ways of God. Jesus knew he only had a limited amount of time so he went out and got people. He taught them and trained them in the things of God. According to all the gospel Jesus sought out them. Luke account of the story.

And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. Luke 5:2‭-‬11 NIV.

We see here the going out and getting his disciples. They are fishermen by trade. Jesus in a since said follow him you will become Fisher of men. As we look closely to the story it tells us of a lot. They almost gave up. They hadn’t caught anything that night. when Jesus came he told them to cast the net on the right side. They did and it was so many fish caught it almost broke their net.

They couldn’t understand what happened but yet Jesus told them and they listen. Jesus called them to follow him and be fishers of men. When we listen to Christ and tell us how to do things we may not have fish in the net but many souls will come to know Christ in a personal way. The dropped everything at the moment and followed Christ because they understand who Jesus was but not fully as the savior.

They had a job to do and it was be under the teaching of Jesus. As he went out and taught others they say his work being done by the power of God. Second point was they was to bring people into the knowing God and Jesus by repeating those thing Jesus had taught them.

Are we being fishers of men. Are we going out and bringing people to Christ. Making disciples of others. Teaching them in the things of God. Let’s reevaluate our life and see what we must do to be the fishers of men. Bring people into the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ so their sins can be forgiving and they can come back to know God in a personal way.
