Growing in God – Discipleship

What would happen if my body never grew. What would happen if I never went to school. What would happen if I never grew in anything.

Since our natural body grows, we go to school to learn and understand those things to help us in life. Why not grow and understand the things of God.

I can’t judge others, but looking back on my life I missed out on things of God because I wasn’t told the correct way in having a personal relationship with God or Jesus. Today topic is about ways to grow in God.

The first point in understanding our personal walk with God. Spending time with him is done in many ways, but yet does growth come from it. Few examples of growing and learning are.

1. Go to church and get the teaching. At most churches today they have Sunday school. They gave the preach word that comes forth but it that enough. Most of the churches continue to use Sundays literature that repeats itself within 3 or 4 years. Those lesson are basic geared to train group of people at one time.

2. Bible study is another way of growing in our walk with God. How many attend a Bible study or a group study. Some churches call it now mid-week service and the pastor or leader might be given a lesson that may not be what your heart, mind or soul need at the moment. Yet you have gotten the word. you can apply it to your life now or use the information for later. When churches do have bible study are you leaving there to have your mind challenged to the things of God or just saying it was a great teaching. Bible study is good you can learn things from it. The question is it helping you in your personal relationship with God?

3. Nothing wrong with the first two ways of growing and understanding the things of God. We can learn a lot. How many are taking the opportunity to go to Sunday school or Bible study. What I found to be true and pushed me into going to church and Bible study more is the personal time spent with God.

What I learned and found was growing in God is a personal and a daily walk with him. Which includes these key principal in my life:

1. Daily time set aside to read and understand the Bible. Today we have so many information that can help us with understanding the bible. Not just reading to be reading but getting the point out what God is telling you in your time of reading and studying the Bible.

2. It’s a personal experience. Each person walk with God is not the same. God will teach us the things we need to hear as we read and study the Bible

3 Application. Apply what we study into out daily life. See how what you read and study can be used in your life.

4. Pray and praise time to God. Set also a time to pray and praise God. This will even make things go better for you in the long run. You and God will have oneness with each other. Closeness, you want to meet with him daily.

Those are some of the things I have done over the years. You might say I am already doing this. To those who are already doing this that is good and wonderful. To those who just now coming to God and understanding who he is. Those things are ways to get closer to him and realizing who you are and what you can do, because of your faith in God.

The challenge to all is to continue to grow in God, grow in your personal relationship with him. Study the word daily. Seek help by going to the pastor if you don’t know the answers. Most of all it’s about the commitment we made to God. To serve and obey him and his word.
