We like for you to answer the question. How are bread water and vine related in a way? They are all things Jesus mentioned. He is or has some involvement into it. When we look into the book of John, Jesus claim to be the bread of life, he claim to give you the living water, and most of all he is the true vine. We are going to look at each on and see how it all fit into Jesus life.
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”John 6:26, 29-29, 32-33, 35-41 NIV.
Here are verses, but there are more within the Bible that Jesus reference himself as the bread of life. Why the bread of life. To look at it we have to study what happened in Exodus as the children of Israel was coming out of the Egypt. While in the desert God gave them manna from heaven. This manna was enough to last for the day. Then the next day new fresh manna came down from heaven. God provided them food to eat everyday. When Jesus said he is the bread of life. He is referring to himself as the bread that God has sent down from heaven to sustain us. One thing about eating bread or food we will go hungry after a while. When Christ the center of your life he is and will be all we need from day by day. What Jesus give us is renewed each day. To the point we will be satisfied, but yet wanting more of him and knowing more of God. It is a daily encounter.
How do we continue to walk with God. What power do we have that will keep us doing those things of God. On two different time Jesus spoke about living water in the book of John and it states.
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” John 4:10 NIV
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. John 7:37-39 NIV
The Holy Spirit will be the power within us. That is the living water that will spring forth in us. The holy spirit as we know it today did not come until Jesus left and went back into heaven. On that day of Pentecost that is when the Holy Spirit came down. The river if living water that flows within help us each day to see and lead us along the way. The Holy Spirit stirs things up inside of us so we can run in the race and do what God has call us to do. By us coming to Christ and letting the Holy Spirit take his course it only help us continue to seek the things of God more and more.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15:1-8 NIV
Why the vine? How did Jesus call himself the true vine. We who come to Jesus realize who he is. The Messiah, The Christ. The Son of the living God. The point Jesus made here is this he is the one and only. He is the true vine. The only way to come to God. The main reason behind loving on Christ is to bring others into the family of God. We have to bring people into the saving knowledge of Christ. Let’s continue to walk with God and commune with Christ, when we do those thing we are walking in the pathway that is great and honor God. What will happen if we don’t remain in God it will be like a branch cast into fire because there is no need and he is useless when it comes to serving God. The benefits of all of this knowing that Christ is the true vine and we continue to remain in him, and his word remain in us, we can ask anything in is name then it will be done. Jesus main concern here was we must bring bring people into the saving knowledge of God. This will bring God glory.
Finally to say in closing we must see Jesus as the provider, and also the life source behind it all. The truth is he is all that we need to sustain us when it comes to the spiritual expect. Just as bread help us physically, Jesus is life for us all the time. Just be reminded that the holy spirit is the fire that fuel us. God is our father that we can go to any time of the day without holding back. Jesus is the bread of life, the true vine, and he has given us the Holy Spirit who is the living water
