The next two day we will be looking at John 3:1-21. Today we will be looking at the the first half of what Jesus told Nicodemus on the topic the meaning of being born again. Tomorrow we will be on the subject salvation it’s not of condemnation.
Those who are believers in Jesus Christ know this verse very well John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. What is the story behind this verse and why did he say this.
It was a meeting between Jesus and Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a man of Pharisees, I do think he didn’t want to been seen with Jesus during the day and that is why it was a nighttime meeting. What was the meeting about and did it serve it purpose. The meeting was all about who Jesus is and why was he sent here. John 3:1-3
3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. JOHN 3:1-3
First thing we notice is the time of day that they meet. second we notice a statement Nicodemus said. It was because of your miracles you do we know you come from God. Except a God is with a person he can’t do what you have been doing. I do think Jesus was going deeper into what he was Nicodemus was saying. In other words you can believe in what i do but that don’t mean you will see the kingdom of God. For Jesus himself said you must be born again to see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. JOHN 3:4-8
THE SPIRIT IS SPEAKING. In the above scripture the question is raised by Nicodemus how can a man be born again at an old age? how can he enter the mother’s womb a second time to be born. Jesus reply was not so but unless a person is born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. The key factor in this is we are born to the fleshly nature but when a person come to know Christ and receive Christ into his life than he is born of the Spirit. That is the meaning of being born again. We many not understand it all but it is like the wind that blows we hear it, but can’t see it. but yet it makes an impact on the things we do. That is how the Spirit is we don’t know where it comes from but we know and understand the sound thereof. As we listen and obey the sound. We will go were it lead us.
.
9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.JOHN 3:9-15
Within this passage the truth comes to light and its all about believing in the JESUS CHRIST. This is the part that many have over look about the conversation that was between Jesus and Nicodemus. They key point is we must believe in Christ and as we believe in him we will not perish but have everlasting life. What the point Christ was saying how would you understand all of these thing if the spirit don’t reveal it to you first. Yes you man be a great man but unless you understand the truth of the matter you all of this is strange to you. Those things I do and and speak of is heavenly things but yet you still don’t understand. Still I think Jesus was implying until you see the son of God be lifted up from the earth you will understand it all and by knowing and believing in what you have seen and heard than you will have the life you are looking for.
To close out today the main take away from this is we must believe in these facts. THIS IS FOR EVERYONE ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME. WE JUST HAVE TO UNDERSTAND IT ALL
JESUS WAS SENT FROM HEAVEN, HE DIED ON THE CROSS, HE WAS BURIED AND HE WAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD. The truth of it all once we understand this truth and receive within our heart, mind and soul, then we shall have everlasting life. We will have the right to the kingdom of God.
